The technology and features of the camera
It has already been mentioned and shown in the beginning that the APEMAN Action Camera WIFI Sports Cam can optionally be used as a helmet camera and of course also as an underwater camera.
The 20 MP camera then guarantees a resolution of 4 K. The built-in waterproof housing allows the user to use the cam in impressive water depths of up to 30 meters without a special case.
The pressure resistance is always fully guaranteed without the need for additional tools.
Not only extreme sports activities, but above all all all outdoor activities around water and water sports therefore form very special fields of application and use for the popular APEMAN Action Camera WIFI Sports Cam.

Integrated functions of the Cam

A special WIFI functionality integrated and built into the modern device guarantees the user a corresponding connectivity of his helmet or action cam.
With APP it is now possible to transfer pictures or whole video streams in real-time mode. The app is called “Final Cam” and can be downloaded for free for Android as well as for IOS. This is what the app’s interface looks like:
The connection with the app was easily established. The downloader of the files from the camera’s memory card also worked perfectly. Only the remote operation of the camera via the app did not work.
Time-laps recordings are possible with 100ms, 200ms, 500ms, 1 second or 5 seconds.
Furthermore, it is possible to determine an object with the camera and direct the focus of the video directly on it. The recording of audio can be switched off.

Loop Recording, i.e. recording in a continuous loop and overwriting the older recording when the memory is full, works either in 3, 5 or 10 minutes loops.
In addition, the camera has a built-in gyro sensor that electronically stabilizes the video recordings. This should always be switched on, since a clear improvement of the recordings is to be achieved by jerk-free operation.
Wide Dynamic Range can be switched on or off. This means that the camera automatically gets the best out of a scene, no matter if it is a photo or a video, if the light differences between light and dark are particularly large.
The camera can provide the following video recording quality levels:
- Ultra HD with 24 frames per second
- 2,7 K with 30 frames per second
- Full HD with 60 or 30 frames per second
- HD with 120, 60 or 30 frames per second
- WVGA with 30 FPS
- VGA with 240 FPS
- VGA 30 FPS
- QVGA 30 FPS
Really useful are only 4k 24FPS, Full HD 60 and 30 FPS spwoe HD with 120 FPS for slow-motion recordings.
A date can be set for each shot, which then appears in photos and videos. If you don’t care, I would always turn this function off, because it can snst mess up your picture.
The angle of the camera can also be adjusted. Because an action cam usually has a wide angle lens, 170° is always preset. But 140°, 110° and 70° can also be used.
If the camera stands around unattended for more than 5 minutes, it switches off automatically. This function can also be set to 1, 3, or 10 minutes.
In order that night shots can also be taken, there is the “Night Scene” night shot function. This must be selected for recordings in the dark.
Of course, the Action Cam also supports continuous shooting, for which the so-called burst mode must be selected.
The quality and sharpness of the photos and videos can also be adjusted via the menu. The difference is clearly visible.
The white balance can also be adjusted. The following options are available:
- Car
- Sunny
- Cloudy
- Artificial light
- Neon light
The color can be set to color, black / white or sepia.
The ISO value can either remain set to “Auto” or be increased to 100, 200 up to 400.
The exposure value can be rotated between + 2 to -2. This adjusts the brightness of the image.

There is also an “Anti-Shaking” mode. This can be used if the recordings become particularly jerky. This way, the best possible results are already achieved during video recording (shaking is easily compensated).
The menu can be switched to German. Furthermore the frequency of the 2 inch screen can be set to 50 or 60 Hz.
The recording format can be stored in either NTSC or PAL.

Even with the APEMAN Action Camera WIFI Sports Cam, which basically works with 2 lithium-ion batteries, it is advisable to always carry several spare batteries or, when using and using rechargeable batteries, an appropriate charger for outdoor use.
The battery life of a video filmed in Ultra-HD is approx. 50 minutes. If you film with Full-HD, the battery can last for 2 hours, provided it is not cold and the battery loses voltage. The battery life is quite comparable to that of a GoPro Hero 3 or Hero 4. The charging time for a battery is about 3 hours, which is a relatively long time.

In addition to the high water resistance and the numerous connectors and sockets installed on the device, which guarantee and enable a connectivity that can be described as all-embracing, further technical highlights and features are the anti-shake tool and the electronic image stabilisation.
The possible video resolution is specified by the manufacturer as a total of 4 K, the photo and still image resolution as a total of up to 20 MP. The selectable resolution thus guarantees the respective user and operator razor-sharp image and video quality for the most diverse types of applications and uses for the cam.
he video format is Mp4 and the video compression format is h.264. Photos can only be taken in JPG format, so unfortunately no RAW format. Only the GoPro Hero 5 or Hero 6 offers this, but these cost 300€ more.
A built-in 2-inch HD screen allows you to view the recorded still images, photos and video sequences in real-time mode. The up to 170 degree ultra wide angle lens is already a standard on the international market for state-of-the-art action and underwater cams.
A built-in timer and an associated self-timer, which can be set to 60 seconds, also allow you to use the device to generate corresponding selfies. The sheer volume of the accessories that can be ordered in stores or alternatively on the Internet alone also impresses with a respectable portfolio of up to 24 parts of useful and useful accessories.

Use in practice
The camera is small, sits well in the hand and reacts promptly to every instruction given by the two buttons on the right side of the camera.
The connection with the app also works perfectly.
The shots in 4k are really great for a camera in this price segment. Of course they are not comparable with the top dog GoPro, but for every hobby filmmaker who wants to film an action scene on vacation.
The battery life of 2 hours with Full-HD and 1 hour with 4k are absolutely sufficient. Included in delivery are already 2 Actioncam batteries, so that at least 2h can be filmed, even with Ultra-HD.
The pictures are really razor sharp due to the 20 MP and partly better than from the competition which only offers 12 MP (GoPro). Here are some pictures:
The only shortcoming here is really the light intensity. If the picture is relatively dark, then it may be that the picture starts to “rustle”, but that is perfectly normal.

The quality, although it is already the maximum zoom result of the camera, is definitely impressive. Comparable pictures from the Gopro would have a much worse quality in the setting “Eng”, which corresponds to the maximum zoom setting.
The accessory set is very extensive and meets every demand. Starting with a german manual, up to a cleaning cloth, everything was thought of.
Even the small action camera case feels high-quality and protects the camera during transport.
The only thing that can be criticized in our opinion is the sometimes slow switching between photo / video and menu. This can take a second or two, but is almost negligible.
The camera stayed dry even during our dive at 10m depth.
