We took a closer look at the Parrot Airborne Night and give you
a small review of the Mini Drone
with this test report.
The Airbone Night is a small toy drone from the French manufacturer Parrot.
Thanks to the integrated, bright LEDs, you can
fly
with it even in the twilight.
Advantages & disadvantages of Parrot Airborne Night

Parrot Airborne Night: Test overview
The Parrot Airborne Night is currently available in 3 different versions. They only
differ in their colour design.
Currently available:
- Parrot Airborne Blaze
- Parrot Airborne Night Swat
- Parrot Airborne Night Maclane
We have tested the Maclane, but technically the 3 variants do not differ!

Unfortunately, no additional propeller set is supplied. However, spare parts can be ordered very cheaply from the manufacturer or from Amazon.
Battery and flight time
The battery of the Parrot Airborne has a charge capacity of 550 mAh and provides for about 7-9 minutes flight time when fully charged.
You should differentiate between flying with or without a bumper. The bumpers are used to protect the propellers and of course bring some weight with them, so the drone flies only 7 instead of 9 minutes.
The advantage is the fast charging time, you only need 25 minutes to fully charge the battery and get the Parrot Airborne ready for take off again.
Quality and finish
The digital quality impression of the mini drone, which is created by the online research, is far exceeded in reality.
The selected plastic material of the struts, the propeller and the propeller protection are very elastic and make a rather noble impression.
Features of the Parrot Airborne Night
A special feature of the Parrot Airborne Night Drone, are the two LEDs, which to our surprise shine quite bright.
With the Parrot Mini App, which you use to control Airborne Night, you can turn the LEDs on and off and adjust the brightness. This allows you to illuminate the area in front of the drone.
At the bottom of the mini drone is a very small camera, you have to look closely to see it.
The app allows you to take pictures from a bird’s eye view using this camera.
However, the quality of the pictures is not so good due to the fact that the camera is so small.
The photos are taken in VGA resolution.
Do not forget that this is a mini drone ;-).
Parrot Airborne Night flight behaviour
To our surprise, the Parrot Airborne Night is really very stable in the air.
The reason for this is a sound sensor which is mounted directly in front of the camera on the underside. This sends sound waves down in the high frequency range.
Furthermore, the 54 gram drone is equipped with a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis acceleration sensor.
As a result, the drone knows how high it is, which movements are currently taking place, how fast it is and then constantly stabilizes itself.
If you move the drone for example abruptly forwards, backwards, right or left, then it will immediately stop and slow down the Airborne Night.
For beginners the automatic stabilization in the air is quite advantageous. In addition, the Mini Drone is much easier to control and fly indoors.
Commissioning of the Parrot Airborne Night
Before you can fly the drone, it must first be loaded. To do this, simply insert the small battery into the small drawer at the back of the drone. Make sure that the writing is directed downwards so that the contacts engage.
Then simply connect the Airborne Night with the USB cable and charge it on your PC, laptop or charger.
Connect the Parrot Airborne to the app and take off
Download the “FreeFlight Mini”.
Switch on your mini drone and wait until the small LEDs light up green.
Then you have to switch on the Bluetooth of your smartphone and open the app. The app will now search for the mini drone and connect to it.
Now you can either use the “TakeOff” touch field to start the drone, or you can use the app to tell the drone to start the rotors when you throw it into the air and it will automatically stay in the air.
Preprogrammed stunts you can do with the mini drone are pretty funny. Just select the field in the upper right corner and then you can decide whether the drone should perform a forward, backward or sideways somersault.
You can do this with a double click on the control panel.
Then the drone will fly up a bit, perform the somersault and stabilize itself in the air. You don’t have to do anything else. Really cool ;-).
Parrot Airborne Conclusion
The Parrot Airborne is a real fun drone, it makes flying a lot of fun and crashes are no problem at all.
Once we flew at full throttle against a window pane and nothing broke. So she is very forgiving, so she is perfect for the beginners among you.
Parrot has really used very high quality material on this drone, that’s why it is so stable.
Normally we would give the drone full points, but the fact that it is not a real controller bothers us.
Of course this is grumbling on a high level, because via smartphone and app the Parrot Airborne can be controlled very reliably.
The disadvantage of this type of control is that you have sweaty hands and you slip on the display. However, the mini drone balances itself then.
If you can’t handle the control via smartphone, you can also buy a FlyPad here on Amazon.
Otherwise there’s nothing else to complain about, because the Parrot Airborne couldn’t be much more stable in the air.
Also the control and how the little drone reacts to control commands seems to be very mature. Therefore from us a clear recommendation to buy!
