This aircraft is not only suitable for advanced pilots, but is also very interesting for beginners. The SG906 Beast drone is stable in the air and has more than fulfilled our expectations despite its low price.
Once you have ordered and paid for the model, it only takes 1 to 2 working days of processing time to send the package, during which time your drone will be subjected to a number of quality control tests and all parts will be checked for proper function. Afterwards the device will be sent to you and you will receive a shipping confirmation.
The process is very clean and there is even a guarantee, so you are on the safe side when ordering. The model has proven to be very stable in our tests and even forgives the odd crash or two.
Flying is also fun, as there is a WiFi function that allows you to connect the drone to your smartphone. This gives you many great features, such as GPS tracking, controlling the quadrocopter from the ego perspective, image target tracking, gesture photography and GPS positioning.
After we unpacked this model and fully charged the battery, we went out into the open air to put the drone through its paces.

Technical data and facts about the ZLRC-animal-SG906 drone
Beside a high quality 4K HD camera, 4 1806 1700 kV electric motors are installed, which work brushless and are very finely controlled by a 30 A regulator. This results in an enormously high flight performance, although each motor is only driven with a voltage of 7.4 volts.
To make the quadrocopter hover very stable and safe in the air without the pilot having to intervene, there is a 6 axis gyroscope system. The gyroscope works over 6 axes and thus ensures a very balanced flight path of the quadrocopter. This makes it very easy for newcomers to learn how to fly the ZLRC Animal-SG906 drone.
In addition, the Beast Quadrocopter has GPS, so the drone is therefore very quiet and relaxed in the air. This also enables some intelligent flight functions such as GPS-Follow-Me and Return-to-Home – more about this later in the Beast test report.
When flying, the model reaches its top speed of 45km/h quite quickly. Of course this is not a racing drone, but the speed of the ZLRC-animal-SG906 drone is really enormous. Which is not least due to the powerful electric motors.
Problems are only encountered in very strong gusts of wind, where the drone eventually reaches its limits. Otherwise it is quite nimble, even an abrupt change of direction is possible without any problems and light to moderate wind is no problem at all, the ZLRC-Tier-SG906 balances it fully automatically via the 6-axis gyro system.
Unfortunately there is no automatic collision detection as some models, e.g. the Mavic 2 Pro, have.

Remote control and range test
We especially liked the remote control for the model SG906. It has a very pleasant shape and a small display that shows the most important data at a glance.
This includes, for example, the current flight altitude, the flight distance as well as a signal that indicates the connection strength of the WLAN to our mobile phone. Furthermore, the current battery status of the drone and the remote control can be viewed. All values are clearly visible as long as the sun does not shine directly on the display.
Above there are 2 gripping arms that can be extended to attach a smartphone. Furthermore, the antennas can be folded out at this point for an optimal flying experience. Make sure that you have completely unfolded the antennas for each flight.
Left and right are 2 buttons each to perform different functions, for example starting a video recording or shooting a photo. In the middle there are 4 status-LED’s and below that an on and off button.
Overall, the remote control is kept very simple, beginners will quickly find their way around. The manufacturer has developed an app for the model, so that you can control the drone easily with the remote control from the ego perspective, which is located in the holder. The connection between drone and smartphone is established via WLAN.

The app can be downloaded free of charge for both Android and iOS devices. The Have Fun app does a good job in practice, but there are occasional delays in the image if the drone has flown too far away from the starting point.
The maximum control distance of the remote control is about 500 meters and the maximum transmission range is 400 meters. The frequency band of the transmitter and receiver unit is 5 Ghz, which ensures the transmission of control signals. As for the GPS tracking distance, it works up to a distance of about 30 meters.
We especially liked the gesture control. If you stand about 2 meters in front of the model, you can create photos or start a video recording with different hand movements. Such a function is usually only available on more expensive drones, like the Hubsan Zino test report.
Photo and video test: camera and recordings
A high-quality front camera with 4K and a wide angle of about 120 degrees is installed. Additionally there is a 720P Cam which is directed downwards.
For the fact that the drone is so inexpensive, the photo and video recordings are definitely worth seeing. We liked them very much and they are more than sufficient for hobby use.
The video resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels and the photos 4096 x 3072 pixels. All in all, this is a very good recording performance. Nevertheless, we were a little bit disappointed that the video resolution is not in a higher range, the 4K only refers to the photo resolution!
Furthermore, videos are not saved in 2k, as on the packaging and in the product description, but only in Full-HD format (1920×1080 px). The quality of the video recordings corresponds to an average quality compared to other drones in this price range.
Real Full HD looks even better, but you’ll have to pay a lot more money for it. The DJI Spark in the test delivers strong video recordings in Full-HD format, but also costs twice as much.
However, the colour depth and sharpness of the photos and videos are good and have satisfied us. The camera can also take very good pictures in the twilight, the 120 degree wide angle lens that was installed here makes sure of that. It is aligned so far that sufficient light enters the lens and thus the photo sensor.

Design and construction of the drone in review
The design was one of the decisive points why we wanted to test this model.
The drone can be folded up similar to the DJI Mavic Pro and thus can be easily transported.
Above is a small bull as a trademark in the colour red, otherwise the quadrocopter has the colour combination black/grey.
On the retractable wings there are bright LED strips, which indicate the position of the model at night. You can easily remove the propellers and replace them, so to speak.
The camera in the front area is evenly embedded and unfortunately has neither a mechanical nor a digital gimbal system. In the lower area there is also an additional cam. The drone has an electronic image stabilisation, which can be switched on and off in the app.
The weight of the model is 527g, so you definitely need a drone license plate.
When folded, the quadrocopter has the following dimensions: 174 x 84 x 70 mm. When unfolded it measures about 283 x 253 x 70 mm.
The compact design allows a very comfortable transport and in combination with the weight a very high flight stability.
Drone pilots can even easily stow the model in their trouser pockets when the device is folded.
We also liked the material processing very much, because it is very stable and robust. This also ensures that even in the event of a crash, no or only very minor damage can be caused to the model aircraft.

Battery technology and flight time test
The flight battery is a 2800 mAh strong Li-Po battery which weighs 150 g. It is very modern and can be quickly and easily inserted into the quadrocopter.
If the battery is completely empty, the maximum charging time is about 2.5 hours!
According to your flight behaviour, the duration of the flight will also vary. On average you will have a flight time of about 18 to 20 minutes. The manufacturer states a maximum of 25 minutes, which is almost impossible to achieve in practice with heavy use.
Flight modes in practical test
The Beast drone comes with a whole range of intelligent flight modes that can be used in flight practice. These include the following modes:
- GPS-Follow
- Gesture control
- Waypoints
- Circle fashion
Follow-Me in the test
In follow-me mode, the drone tracks the GPS signal of the remote control and follows the pilot at every turn as long as he carries the remote control with him.
This flight mode works well in practice, although the camera sometimes loses sight of the pilot. The Beast Drone is an entry-level drone that allows to test Follow-Me, but does not meet the requirements of professional chases.
Nevertheless, it is fun to be followed by the drone in a free area without obstacles or other restrictions. The “Beast” has no obstacle detection sensors, this should be taken into account during flight training.
Take photos and videos using gesture control
The drone can also be operated by gesture control. There are two different gestures for this.
If we point a “peace sign” into the camera at a distance of 2m from the drone, a photo is taken. It will take 3 seconds, then the photo will be taken. So we have enough time to get a perfect shot.
If we hold our flat hand into the camera, a video is taken or the video recording is stopped. Both gestures are really well recognized by the drone and it is a lot of fun to use these functions in practice.
Waypoint mode under the microscope
In the app we can switch to waypoint mode. Here it should be possible to draw waypoints on the map, which SG906 will fly afterwards.
Unfortunately we could not use this function. No map appears in the app when we switch to the waypoints mode. Therefore we cannot give any further information about this.
Circle Mode in test
We can use this flight mode if the drone is to circle around an object or ourselves. We can adjust whether the drone moves clockwise or counter-clockwise around us.
First we have to place the drone exactly over the respective object. Then we upload the GPS data and the drone flies about 3m. away from the object and then turns back to us or to the respective object.
Now we can have the drone circle around us. To do this, we simply have to use the respective joysticks on the remote control. The drone will then fly a perfect circle around us.
All in all, this flight mode works well, but does not meet the requirements of professional pilots and videographers.

Conclusion
Beginner pilots without much flying experience and bargain hunters are well advised to buy the SG 906 Beast drone. What is offered here is really the hammer at this price. The operation is very easy, on the remote control but also in the app everything is kept nice and clear.
Of course you cannot compare this quadrocopter with a top model of the brand DJI, but it comes close to the quality.
