A-Rival is a well-known manufacturer, which develops and sells navigation devices, sports watches, action cams and other technical devices.
Because especially navigation devices need a high degree of know-how and we think that you can trust in the products of A-Rival, we took a closer look at an action camera of the manufacturer.
The A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6 is in our opinion perfect for beginners and it has a very good price-performance ratio!

Technical properties
One thing that is always included in our evaluation is the scope of delivery, which is especially generous with this model.
Much more important than the set and housing of the cam are the inner values.
The motion sensor, for example, is unusual. If this function is activated, the camera records objects that move for one minute and then stops recording again.
The cam also has an internal memory of 512 MB, making it even more powerful.
Beginners should be able to get along with the A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6 especially well, while professionals should rather look for a GoPro camera.
Design and appearance
The design appealed to us. Although the orange tones are not to everyone’s taste, the workmanship and the materials seem quite robust.
The underwater housing looks a bit cheap due to its transparent plastic structure, but according to the manufacturer it should be waterproof to a depth of 40 meters.
On the back side there is a 1.5 inch TFT screen with 480 x 240 pixels. On the right and left side of the display there are various controls to control the camera menu.
The cam measures 65.5 x 38 x 37.5 mm and weighs about 77 grams without the battery.
It has a mini HDMI connection and a mini USB 2.0 connection.
Image sensor, resolution and memory
In the A-Rival Action Cam “aQtion Cam” AQN6 is a 12 megapixel photo sensor built in, but with which you can only produce Full HD 1080P images at a frame rate of 30 frames per second.
In the menu you have the possibility to set other resolution formats. You can choose between 2 MP / 3 MP / 5 MP / 8 MP and 12 megapixel for photos.
The video codec is H.264 and audio codec -ACC. Photo and video recordings are stored on an external memory card that you can insert into the camera. Here only Micro SD cards up to 32 Gbyte work. Before using such a memory card, you should format it properly so that your photo and video recordings are safely stored on it.
Menu navigation and recording modes
Using the buttons on the back of the camera, all items in the menu can be quickly accessed. All important submenus are simply structured and the whole thing doesn’t look too cluttered.
You have a wide range of settings at your disposal, including different recording modes. You can choose between Auto, Night, Cloudy, Rain, and Snow photo mode.
We recommend you to stay in auto mode, because you quickly forget to undo the settings and the cam will always change automatically in auto mode without any changes.
Since the latest firmware update there is also an underwater mode. With this you can create even better and higher quality images of the underwater world. This mode should be especially interesting for divers and snorkelers.
Then there is, as already mentioned, another function of the automatic recording, but therefore, the A-Rival action camera has a motion sensor and the video recording starts for 1 minute as soon as the cam recognizes movements. We have not seen such a function in other action cameras yet.
Battery and runtime
It has a rechargeable 900 mAh strong Li-Ion battery, whose runtime is about 60-90 minutes, depending on how many pixels or at which resolution you film.
The battery was placed in the front directly next to the lens.
How good is the image quality?
For the fact that the camera is so cheap and only has a Full HD 1080P resolution and 12 megapixels, it takes pretty good photos and videos.
You can rate the quality of the video recording in the following resolution values:
Full HD 1080P, 1920 x 1080 pixels (25 or 30 fps): Very good video quality720P
, 16:9 recording, 1280 x 720 pixels (50 or 60 fps): Good quality video
In addition, the pictures don’t look very pixelated even at digital zoom, but rather quite sharp.
Lighting conditions
The lighting conditions have a slight effect on the quality of the picture, but you can adjust your camera accordingly in the menu.
For which applications is the camera suitable?
The Action Cam A-Rival AQN6 is especially suitable for divers, snorkelers and water sportsmen.
Since the cam is also shockproof and dustproof, you can also use it on a trip through the desert or for skiing.
Due to the brackets and adhesive strips, it is also possible to expand the application variants as desired, whether as a helmet camera or as a drone camera, it is suitable for almost all applications.
We only recommend you to avoid places with a particularly high ambient temperature, because high heat could damage the electronics of the Action Cam A-Rival AQN6.

Conclusion
Whether as a dashcam, camera for diving or as a helmet camera, the A-Rival action camera is so versatile due to its robust construction and housing that it is definitely worth buying for the current price!
The photo and video quality of this compact action camera is really very good. The cam also has an accelerometer, motion detection and many other features not usually seen in action cams in this price range.
Sometimes, however, the functions interfere with each other if you have activated them in the background. For example, it is possible to turn off the screen after a while, but if the motion sensor is still active, the screen will turn on again as soon as it detects motion.
Despite the fact that the recordings are so good and the camera is otherwise quite reliable, we recommend the GoPro 6 or 7 to the professionals among you, but amateur and hobby filmers should take a closer look at the A-Rival action cam, because in our opinion it has an unbelievable price/performance ratio.
