An action camera should be inexpensive but still of high quality. This is exactly what every buyer wants. Because we know that cheap sport cams are very popular, we have once again looked around for cheap models. With a renewed research we came across the ACME VR06 4K Sports and Action Camera. Whether this device is good for something and what other buyers say about it, you will find out in this report.
Technical details
Basically, the ACME VR06 is equipped with everything you could wish for in an action camera. It produces high-quality 4K videos, has a waterproof housing (waterproof up to 30 meters) and an integrated Wi-Fi.
Photo and video recordings are okay, but could be a bit better and have more color depth. Furthermore, the audio tracks are not that high quality, probably because a rather inferior microphone is used, that could have been done better.
Resolution and quality of photo and video recordings
The resolution values for video recordings are
- 4K at 25 fps
- 2.7K at 30 fps
- 1080P at 60 fps
With the help of WiFi, the camera can also be paired with a smartphone. An app is also required for this.
Photos are usually taken with a resolution of up to 12 MP. Continuous shooting at up to 25 frames per second is also possible.
Compared to the video recordings, the photos you can take with the ACME VR06 are much sharper and have a higher color depth.
Unfortunately the camera is not designed for dark rooms and even in the twilight the photo quality leaves something to be desired. This is probably because the camera lens does not allow enough light to enter the room. Although a wide angle lens with 140 degrees has been installed here, 4 lenses plus 1 additional lens made of plastic have been installed in it.
The focal length is within the average frame of such an action camera and is 3.6 mm.
Otherwise the photos will convince you, you should always keep the low price in mind. You can’t compare the quality with a GoPro action camera, but it is more than sufficient for private use.
Battery
It is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a maximum charging capacity of 1050 mAh. When fully charged, this battery provides a maximum runtime of 90 minutes at 4K resolution with 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps. However, you can extend the battery life by filming at 1080p at 30 fps. You can set the resolution values in the menu.
Charging takes about 2-3 hours, depending on whether the battery is really complete or just almost empty. Which we find pretty cool: There are 2 batteries included and you can change them both.
Memory
The camera can work with a memory card up to 32 Gbyte, only a micro SD card fits in here. It can also work with 16 Gbyte memory cards. However, when choosing a suitable storage medium, you should make sure that the card works with 10 times the speed. Only then you have the possibility to use the maximum writing speed in 4K mode.
General processing quality
At first glance, the ACME VR06 makes a very compact impression. It also looks well made. The case is made of a black plastic, which is quite handy, so the camera won’t slip easily out of your hand.
Included in the scope of delivery is a transparent plastic housing, it protects against water. This housing gives the impression of being cheaply made, which is the case with most models in this price category.
To open and remove the case needs some patience, you have to lever it up easily and sometimes it can happen that it gets stuck.

For the price you get a pretty big scope of delivery here. The package includes pretty much everything you could wish for in an action camera. Of course this makes for an even better price/performance ratio!

Assets and drawbacks
This model is very good value for money, but there are a few disadvantages that also bothered us. So that you can better decide whether the action camera is something for you, we have summarized the positive and negative aspects of the camera for you.

Conclusion
Compared to other cameras in this price range, the ACME VR06 is quite good, but there are also better models, such as the SJCAM SJ5000 Elite.
The thing that really bothers us is the microphone. Of course, action cameras are notorious for not being able to record with enormously superior sound quality, but you could have used a much better microphone.
Photography and video recordings, however, are quite good for this price. You have to consider that if you want GoPro quality, you should get it and pay the price. Here you get a cam for the small purse and the quality is top!
