Various online shops advertise a cool drone called Elenker 509g. The model is said to be suitable for beginners, but also for advanced and professional users. After having a closer look at the quadrocopter, we have a different opinion.
Technical data
The technical data alone is enough to relativize the statement that the drone is also suitable for advanced and professional drone pilots. However, it is perfectly suited for newcomers!
Size, design and weight
The weight is about 120 g with the dimensions 316 mm x 316 mm x 106 mm. The design reminds a little bit of the Yuneec Typhoon drone, but it is much more expensive.
All rotor blades are each equipped with a rotor protection, so they are well protected against collisions or a crash.
Thanks to the LED lighting you can fly with this quadrocopter even at night.
Camera, memory and FPV live image transmission
Built in is a 2 megapixel camera for recording videos and photos.
The model also has an FPV screen and live image transmission. This takes place on the frequency band of about 5.8 Ghz. The images are protected from light and can be viewed on the FPV screen.
In our opinion, the video recordings are, however, underground, which could have been done much better in this price segment.
Battery, range and flight time
A 3.7V 600 mA Li-ion battery is used.
Unfortunately, it does not provide for particularly long flight times, this is a maximum of 6 minutes, which is damn little for a model of this size.
You can fly about 60 meters, after that the transmitter cannot transmit the live picture undisturbed. In our opinion, this is an extremely weak transmission power, there are even many mini drones that can do much more, even double that!
Flight Stabilization
One technical detail that’s fairly common on drones is the 6-axis gyroscope system. This was also integrated into the system of the ELENKER 509G drone.
So for beginners it will be quite easy to control the drone, because the gyroscope balances the model completely by itself.
At the push of a button you can do different stunts and roles in all directions.
Flight modes
Another function that makes flying easier for the beginner is the headless mode. Here the drone is controlled in such a way that it flies to you regardless of its orientation when you pull the control lever towards you. The system detects the location of the remote control, so to speak, and no longer aligns itself with the head of the quadrocopter, but with the transmitter.
The One Key Back mode allows the drone to be retrieved by pressing the corresponding button on the remote control once. No matter where it is located, it will come flying towards you.
Assets and drawbacks
Advantages:
- Cool design with LED lighting – you can fly at night
- Well suited for beginners
- Safe 6-axis gyroscope system
- Camera and FPV live image
- Headless mode for better flight control
- Cool 3D stunts (forward, backward, right and left)
Cons:
- Only a maximum of 6 minutes flight time
- Low range (unfortunately only 60 meters)
Conclusion
In our opinion the purchase is not worthwhile for advanced pilots. However, a beginner can gain flying experience with this model very quickly and inexpensively and expand his skillset.
