Hawkeye Firefly 8SE Action Camera Test

Slightly more expensive than other action cameras but still cheaper than a GoPro, is the Hawkeye Firefly 8SE action camera.

In our opinion, its price of around 150€ is absolutely justified, as it has the fairly modern Ambarella A12S processor and also has the high-resolution imx117 sensor from the manufacturer Sony.

Technical features

The price/performance ratio is definitely great, the camera offers a lot of modern technology for the money and is quite powerful. Thanks to the Ambarella A12S processor, it achieves frame speeds of up to 240 frames per second, making it great for slow-motion shooting.

Thanks to the unique architecture of the chip and 28 nm processor technology, power consumption is reduced while at the same time the technical feasible performance is significantly increased. It is not without reason that the chipset is also used for 360 degree cameras, as a lot of power is also required there.

Qualitatively you are with the Hawkeye Fireflye 8SE Action Cam in any case on the safe side. The only question is, if you want to have this performance or if a cheaper camera model is sufficient for your purposes

Design and appearance

Externally, the cam makes a very positive impression, it looks very modern and is constructed similar to the GoPro action cameras.

Image sensor, resolution and memory

The Hawkeye Fireflye 8SE Action Cam has a 5.1 cm high, very bright LCD touch display on the back and looks very modern. But what counts in the end are the inner values.

You can take pictures with 16 megapixels and you can also set different resolutions in the menu to create images.

Images are stored on an external TF memory card. You have to buy this externally.

The menu is very simple and understandable for every beginner. The camera can be operated intuitively via touchscreen.

What we really like is that the Hawkeye Fireflye 8SE Action Cam is wifi-capable. You can download a free app to your iPad, Smartphone or Android Pad and control the action camera, share and view shots.
