360 degree cameras are very trendy. Recently we have also chosen a few models from this category, including the KODAK PIXPR0 4KVR360 VR camera, which produces incredibly good shots with the help of 2 fixed focus lenses.

Technical properties

The Kodak 4KVR360 is the successor to the Kodak Pixpro SP360 4K camera.

The KODAK PIXPR0 4KVR360 VR Camera consists of a single housing and has 2 lenses and 2 image sensors, similar to the Samsung Gear 360 Cam. Only the outer design is slightly different.

It is also suitable for outdoor use, weighs 156 grams, is protected against splash water and can easily withstand temperatures down to minus 10 degrees. It has IPX5 as its safety class.

The weight of the camera is only 156 grams.

Image sensor, resolution and memory

Each of the two image sensors has a resolution of about 20 megapixels to produce high-quality photos. Photos have 7360 x 3680 pixels in 360 degree spherical/VR mode. The camera takes videos with a maximum of 4K, that is 3840 x 1920 pixels, at a frame rate of 24 frames per second.

As memory you can use a microSD memory card with up to 256 gigabytes of storage space.

Picture and video recordings are extremely sharp, colorful and have a high detail density.

Surely you are wondering how a 360 degree perspective can be achieved with only 2 cameras. The camera concept of the 4KVR360 camera differs fundamentally from the models that are otherwise available on the market.

Normally 360 degree cams are built in such a way that 2 similar lenses are used, each with an angle of view of a little more than 180 degrees, which then overlap each other slightly.

The KODAK PIXPR0 4KVR360 VR Camera uses a different concept. Here a 155 degree, lens and another one with 235 degrees are combined.

The manufacturer has already thought of something, as the cam can be used as a 360 degree camera as well as an action cam. The 155 degree lens is suitable for shooting in 16:9 aspect ratio and can be used as an action camera while the other image sensor doesn’t work.

As soon as you want to shoot with the 360 degree perspective, you can easily switch and add the other sensor.

When viewed from the side, the different size and orientation of the two camera lenses can be clearly seen.

The camera’s software calculates the two angles of view so that they add up to 360 degrees, overlapping each other. The two partial images are then added together to produce a finished 360 degree video. The camera merges the two partial images so that it creates a 4K video with 15 fps.

But you can also set a higher frame rate. But here 2 single circular videos will be saved and no ready assembled video will be saved.

The sound quality is also implemented quite excellently, often the value of the microphone is not so good, especially with action cameras the poor recording quality of the audio track is criticized, which is not the case with the 4KVR360 camera. You have no distortion, noise or other negative elements in the audio track.

Menu navigation and recording modes

Usually the 360 degree camera can be operated directly with the buttons. But there is also an app provided by the manufacturer with which you can control the cam comfortably after you have paired it with your device.

To take pictures or start video recording without holding the camera in your hand, a remote control is included. The remote control is coupled with the 360 degree camera via Bluetooth.

Coupling with Smartphone/Tablet and App operation

With the help of the app, which you can easily install on your smartphone, it is possible to watch the live image preview directly on your phone. The menu for further settings of the 360 degree camera is quite intuitive and easy to use.

On your smartphone, you can easily view the shots in 360-degree perspective by simply moving your finger across the screen, the image moves and you have a cool all-round view.

The pictures can be previewed after they are created, but not in full quality. To view them in the highest resolution, you have to download the photos and videos to your device, i.e. smartphone or tablet. This can take a few seconds.

The scope of delivery is very extensive, you get a large equipment, including a small selfie stick, a remote control which is operated via Bluetooth, 2 lens covers, a mini tripod, a bag, various cables, attachments and of course a battery + charger.
