For many people, Midland doesn’t seem that familiar. Meanwhile, the manufacturer has already launched other cameras such as the XTC-400. This is a cool helmet camera.
In our report today, however, we present the Midland H7+ WiFi Action camera, which is perfect for beginners in terms of price/performance ratio as it is quite easy to use.
The photo quality is also very good. Thanks to the photo sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels, 4K video recordings are also possible, which are recorded at a frame rate of about 24 frames per second.
The possibility to use the mounts of many competitors is also quite advantageous, because it is similar to the GoPro format in design.
Technical features
The Midland H7+ action camera has many features that make it even easier to shoot and enjoy better image quality.
These include a self-timer that also reacts to movement, an image stabilizer, remote control and a waterproof housing.
The action camera also has a wide-angle lens with 150 degrees. Which makes for an even better incidence of light. The image quality can also be changed in the settings to suit your own needs. Exposure, sharpness and colour saturation and shooting modes can be set quickly and easily in the menu.
There is also an integrated Wifi function, which allows you to control the camera via a smartphone app.
Divers, snorkelers and other water sports enthusiasts among you will also be thrilled, as the Midland H7+ WiFi Action Camera has a housing that is waterproof to a depth of 30 metres.
Design and appearance
The Midland H7+ looks and measures a little bit like a GoPro camera, like the GoPro 3, for example. The weight is about 73 grams and the dimensions are 59 mm x 51 mm x mm 22 mm.
Striking are the even more rounded corners, which give the cam a slightly feminine touch.
The color combination also stands out. The bilious green color in combination with the gray front looks quite good in our opinion, but tastes will differ quite a bit here. The Midland H7+ polarizes with its design and not everyone likes it.
The housing, which is waterproof up to 30 meters, also makes a high-quality impression and is transparent in most places.
Unfortunately, the microphone is built in such a way that when the camera is built into the housing, the recorded sound sounds a bit tinny.
Image sensor, resolution and memory
It has a high-quality 12 megapixel photo sensor and an LCD screen with a size of about 2 inches.
Videos are usually recorded with a resolution of 4K. But you can also set other resolution values, but then the frame rate changes. The advantage of a lower resolution is that you can save some battery and storage capacity, but the picture quality will be a bit worse.
The following resolutions are available in the menu:
- 4k at 24 fps
- 2.7k at 30 fps
- 1080p at 60 fps or 30 fps
- 720p at 120 fps or 60 fps
The data is stored on an SDHC card, which must not have more than 32 GB to allow the camera to work properly with the memory card.
Battery and runtime
For the action camera to work for a long time, it must have a strong battery. Included is a 1000 mAh lithium ion battery, with which you can operate the cam for up to 90 minutes. The actual possible usage time with a fully charged battery varies with the set video resolution and frame rate.
A higher resolution requires more power and thus leads to a shorter battery life. The picture frequency looks similar, the higher it is set, the faster the battery is empty again.
What is the camera suitable for?
The Midland H7+ WiFi Action camera is pretty good for water sports but also as a dash-cam or generally for outdoor use.
For adventure tours, family outings or longer activities we recommend you to buy one or two spare batteries. These are quite inexpensive and very valuable.
