Drones are becoming more and more popular from day to day. The reason for this is that many people increasingly appreciate the positive characteristics of drones.
Most quadrocopters are used for recreational purposes to take photos and videos in adequate quality or just to have fun flying.
Others are more suitable for professional use. The MJX X101, however, is a drone that was developed more for recreational purposes.
It is a lot of fun and available at a very reasonable price. In our test you can read what you should pay attention to when buying
The product details of the MJX X101 drone:
- 2.4 Ghz radio remote control with integrated LCD display
- 720p camera
- 6-axis gyroscope
- Dimensions: 50cm x 50cm x 18cm
- Weight: 420 grams
- Range: 100 meters
- 1200 mAh Lipo battery
- Flight time: about 11 minutes
- Charging time: 90 minutes
- Flight modes for beginners & advanced pilots
Just like many models on the market of affordable leisure drones, this quadrocopter has also received a lot of positive feedback.
On the one hand, the MJX X101 is “ready to fly”, which means you don’t have to write much on the drone anymore and on the other hand the model contains a fixed camera which transmits the image live to your smartphone. For this purpose there is a bracket on the remote control.
Behind this drone is an intelligent design and a compact structure. Therefore, the complete flight model fits into a medium sized box.
It’s also perfect for beginners, as it can easily withstand light jolts and collisions. In addition, the propeller protection provides additional safety when flying. These can also be quickly & easily removed and installed. It is therefore quite a lot of fun to try out the MJX X101 drone.
Flight quality and performance
But let’s take a closer look at the workmanship, performance and flight quality.
The 6-axis gyroscope ensures that the drone is always balanced in its flight path. Should you ever lose sight of it, this is no problem at all, because it has a “Return To Home” function.
That means, if you have lost your orientation, simply activate this function via the left rear button on the remote control and it will automatically return to the starting point flown.
Ingenious is the looping function, which allows even beginners to fly a 360 degree roll without having to have special flying experience. There is a special button on the remote control for this purpose. When this button is pressed, the MHX X101 does the roll and balances itself immediately. With this you can inspire others quite fast ;).
It accelerates powerfully and quickly reaches a high speed. Of course, this really puts you in a good mood and makes flying fun. Besides the fact that it floats quite calmly in the air, it is also quite agile and agile.
All control commands are reliably executed by the MJC X101. Significantly more expensive drones have an even shorter reaction time, but the truth is that this difference is hardly noticeable and this quadrocopter costs only a fraction of an expensive aircraft of this size.
Camera and recording quality of the MJX X101
For this price the photo and video recordings are really impressive. Unfortunately it has no gimbal system. Therefore the pictures are a bit blurred. But we don’t think that’s so bad and for this price category it’s completely normal!
This effect is significantly reduced with an anti-vibration plate to which the camera is attached. This cool design makes it possible to create almost vibration-free video recordings.
The camera is one of the most popular features of this drone because it is so affordable and gives a really good picture. Video recording is possible in 720p HD, which guarantees high quality pictures from the air.
Unfortunately, you can’t just take the camera down like that. Unfortunately, it only works when it is connected to the MJX X101 drone. This is because it is connected to the power supply of the aircraft.
Although the photo and video recordings are particularly suitable for recreational purposes, if you want even more quality and are looking for a drone for professional photography, we recommend the DJI Mavic Pro or the DJI Professional 3, as this drone will then unfortunately no longer meet the requirements.
Unfortunately, for very professional recordings you have to pay many times the price of the MJX X101.
But if you just want to have fun flying and recording video footage, then it’s perfect for you. In the hobby area there are many drones with lower quality but for the same price. Therefore we advise you to take it while the price is still lowered!
Here we emphasize again: The MJX X101 is a pure hobby drone and not suitable for highly professional use.
But for the fact that it is so extremely cheap, it is a lot of fun!
Controlling the drone
The MJX X101 remote control has a typical design. Although the design is plain and simple, it works very well. What we like very much about it is that it is so light. This ensures that the drone can be easily and comfortably controlled while it is in the air with the help of the remote control.
Even for beginners the control is more than easy. With the help of two joysticks it can be controlled effortlessly.
The left stick is used to control the ascent and descent as well as the rotation around its own axis and the right stick is used for lateral movements and flying forward and backward.
The MJX X101 can be set to 3 different speed levels using the left-hand buttons below the left-hand joystick.
With the potentiometer on the right side, the maximum tilt of the quadrocopter can be easily limited. If the aircraft is a bit too fast for your taste, you can throttle it with this. Because if the inclination is not so big anymore, even at full throttle you will not be able to reach such high speeds.
For the remote control you need 3 x AA AA batteries with 1.5 V each to supply it with sufficient power. Typically 4 batteries are used, but the MJX X101 only needs 3 and can go up to 100 meters. This is more than many other drones in this price class can do.
Positive features of the MJX X101
We noticed the built-in camera very positively. It transmits a WLAN signal, which also allows FPV (First Person View) flights, although the drone is actually so cheap.
FPV means that the image signal can be observed live on your smartphone. So you can control the aircraft and observe the environment from the perspective of the drone.
Once the quadrocopter has reached a certain altitude for the first time, it has absolutely no problems to hold its position. Although the flight behaviour cannot be compared to that of a DJI drone, there are some drones for less than 200 €, which just wobble around and can’t be steered properly at all. This is not the case with the MJX X101.
The propellers give the drone the necessary power and transmit the power of the engines to the environment very well.
What is just as well made are the feet of the quadrocopter. Although they look a bit light and fragile, they can cushion a rough landing without any damage.
In general, the MJX X101 seems to be made of material strong enough to withstand rough impacts on objects or even a crash.
Despite its low price range, the quadrocopter is therefore suitable for flying a little wilder and trying out daring manoeuvres, just like the Parrot Bebop 2. All important electronic components are surrounded by high-quality plastic and protected by the housing.
In the long run, the purchase of the MJX X101 is an investment in a durable and reliable drone. This point is very important and decisive for a very good price/performance ratio.
What we did not like about the MJX X101
In the test the 1200 mAh battery lasts 11 minutes. That is pretty good for this price category, but the charging time leaves a lot to be desired. With a conventional USB cable, about 90 minutes are needed for charging. The flight to charge time ratio is therefore quite poor.
We recommend that you buy 1 or 2 spare batteries, so that the flying fun is not over so quickly.
For this, the external battery underneath the drone has to be replaced. It is located in the vibration plate. The cable connections can be easily detached and plugged in again. At the beginning you have to pull the battery a little bit to release it from the holder.
Conclusion about the MJX X101 drone
The MJX X101 is an excellent RC quadrocopter that can take on quite a lot and is perfect for beginners. It is very robustly manufactured, affordable and shines for its price category with cool features and excellent flight stability.
What we should perhaps also mention: You can also use your GoPro camera. This is a small action camera. With a holder you can simply stick it to the bottom of the anti-vibration plate. There is no gimbal system available but for this price it is normal.
All in all, the MJX X101 is a very good drone which we would like to recommend to you, especially if you are still inexperienced in flying.
