The Nikon Coolpix P900 camera is often bought because its unbelievably high zoom power is especially interesting for advanced photographers.
In addition, the enormously high picture quality and DSLR-style appearance makes this camera model even more attractive.
The camera is also easy to use, has a long battery life and can be controlled by smartphone or tablet via Wifi.
The price/performance ratio is very good. All in all, this model is also perfectly suited for beginners or hobby photographers who are not yet very experienced in handling such cameras. The technical components, menu navigation and handling are so simply structured that everyone will find their way around the Coolpix P900 after a short time.
Design and appearance
A special feature of the camera, is the swivel LCD display, which you can adjust the angle variably. There is also a viewfinder.
So to speak you have 2 possibilities to follow your recordings live: The high-resolution viewfinder and the tilting LCD.
The display looks very modern and has a high pixel density of 921,000 pixels. It has a size of 7.5 cm, which is 3.0 inches. Thanks to its flexibility, you have a perfect view of the captured image from all possible angle positions. For example, you can easily shoot overhead selfies. The high-quality TFT display always shows the live image correctly, even in strong sunlight thanks to the anti-reflection coating and a brightness control that you can adjust in 7 different levels.
On the right side of the camera are the usual buttons and wheels to operate and adjust the camera.
With the help of the multi-function wheel you can set different exposure programs and adjust your photo sensor to the lighting conditions. There are a total of 4 different modes (P/S/A/M), which allow you to use the camera extensively.
Furthermore, a high-quality microphone is built in to be able to record noises in the surroundings but also in a long distance. For example the recording function of the microphone changes equivalent to the zoom factor. This means that if you have activated the zoom microphone function and then zoom to the distance, the sound recordings will change according to the zoom factor. If you have zoomed in on distant objects, the microphone will record more of the sounds in the distance. In our opinion a damn cool function!
The housing looks like a standard SLR camera, although the Nikon Coolpix P900 is a digital camera. The compact size makes it easy to transport, making it ideal for travelling or other activities.
Image sensor, resolution, video features and memory
A 16 megapixel CMOS BSI sensor is built in, with which you can take good pictures even in bad light conditions.
Unfortunately there is no way to record 4K videos with the Nikon Coolpix P900, you can only record videos in Full HD quality, i.e. 1080p at 60 frames per second. During the video shoot there is the possibility to take small snapshots again and again.
You can always use the 83x zoom, with which you can also show a very distant motive in full size. For example, it is possible to take pictures of the moon craters under a full moon and clear sky.
The slow motion and fast motion recording functions are also advantageous. Whereby the slow-motion function quickly reaches its limits due to low frame rates.
How good is the image quality?
The picture quality of photos is extremely high. Even motifs at great distances are displayed pin-sharply, thanks to a fantastic focal length range of 24 to 2000 mm. So this is a real focal length talent.
Another point is also the autofocus. The P900 works super fast and very precisely. In less than 1 second the camera focuses from very close to far away. In AF Portrait, faces are recognized and focused even faster and better. However, with very distant objects, the autofocus may still sometimes focus briefly on the background.
To ensure that photos of objects with low illumination are of high quality, a particularly fast lens was selected for the Nikon Coolpix P900. Therefore, photos taken at dusk and dawn do not look too gloomy.
In addition, the five-stage optical image stabilizer ensures that photographs are not subject to camera shake. This function is extremely important due to the zoom performance, as the slightest movement can distort subjects at a distance.
All in all, the photo shots are extremely satisfying and razor-sharp. In our opinion, the camera is particularly suitable for nature pictures. Most buyers are enthusiastic.

Many people should know that the Nikon Coolpix P900 is not a system camera but a bridge camera, we wanted to make that clear once again. Therefore this model cannot be compared with a system camera.
The P900 is slightly heavier and larger than a system camera but still more compact than standard SLR cameras.
Therefore, this model should not be viewed in the light of DSLR cams. Especially not because they have a multiple value in terms of price. Not everyone can afford a high quality SLR and that’s why the Nikon Coolpix P900 is just right for those who don’t have that much of a budget.
Among other things, this camera also serves as a multi-functional tool and an outstanding feature is the strong zoom factor, which in our opinion makes the price/performance ratio look extremely good and is a really good argument for the P900.
We like this model very much. The price is perfectly okay for what is offered here and often even reduced in many shops.
