In today’s report we introduce the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera. This is not an action cam, but a normal photo camera using digital technology.
It has a 12 MP photo sensor, a 1:2.0 lens, GPS and a few other technical components that make it particularly easy and reliable to use.

Many buyers are very satisfied with the pictures of this camera and we liked them very much as well. The pictures are definitely worth seeing, both the photos and videos are in a super quality.
After the recording you can also simply edit the files on your PC with the help of a photo editing program.
The Olympus Tough TG-5 camera is also an excellent model for outdoor activities, even if we are not talking about a standard action camera.
It is well suited for underwater photography, for this it even has an extra underwater mode. But you can also use the P- and Macro-mode, as well as the simple aperture correction to go diving. Here it is important to set the correct ASA value, you will probably have to try a little bit.
We recommend to leave the white balance set to automatic even for diving.
There are also various modes available for shooting, including the possibility of slow motion.
What we did not like so much is for example that there is no possibility to adjust the exposure time.
Design
We think the design of the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera is very appealing. The cam has a nice colour in red, alternatively you can choose black in the shop.
On the back is the large display with a high color depth and sharp resolution.
In addition to the display, there are various buttons, wheels and settings options for better picture quality, where you can navigate the menu, turn Wi-Fi on and off, adjust lighting conditions, start and stop recording, among other things.
The material of the digital camera is very robust, so the camera is shockproof up to 2.1 m, waterproof up to 15 m and non-deformable up to 100 kg.
In addition, the model is frost-proof up to -10 degrees, dustproof and according to the manufacturer there is no fogging of the lens even with temperature shifts. It should be mentioned here that there are buyers who occasionally report a slight fogging when there are particularly large temperature differences.
Otherwise, the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera is a real masterpiece for this price. In our opinion, the price/performance ratio is therefore very good!

A high-quality 12 MP photo sensor is installed. With it you can not only take great photos, but also high-quality recordings in 4K at a frame rate of 30 frames per second.
If you need even faster frame rates, simply switch to Full HD video resolution and you can benefit from a frame rate of up to 120 fps.
The lens is protected from water up to a depth of 45 meters, provided that the camera is in a waterproof housing.
The focal length of the camera is in a range between 4.5 and 18.00 mm.
In addition, the model is equipped with various field sensors such as the GPS, pressure gauge, temperature sensor and a compass.
The comprehensive sensor technology enables the simultaneous recording of video material and tracking data. This allows you to easily capture and process both compass and temperature data.
Especially in combination with the free app, the data can be transferred quickly, securely and conveniently to the end device of your choice.
Thanks to the intelligent design of the Olympus Tough TG 5 digital camera, very high quality images are produced even when lighting conditions are rather poor. You can therefore use the cam in twilight, underwater and in other environments where light conditions are poor. Since the image sensor is highly sensitive and works very fast, it can handle very high image dynamics when taking pictures.

Handling and operation of the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera
The Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera definitely scores in terms of handling and setup. This way, photos in absolute top quality are guaranteed, as you can handle the cam quite easily, all important control elements are in their place, and the menu structure is very simple and clearly arranged.
In our opinion, the quality, workmanship and architecture are simply super and also justify the high price. Because these things are perfectly coordinated, the digital camera is also well suited for beginners. Clear and unshaky shots are no longer a problem with this model.
What else should you consider when operating the camera?
You can take pictures at the best time with the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera. For example, if you’re on the road and want to use the best possible triggering time, it can be helpful to use the pro shooting mode of the TG-5. This mode is quite unique and allows you to take a certain number of shots before or after the shutter is released.
This allows you to create exactly the shots you want.
Since the camera has a 4x zoom factor, you can not only capture distant objects, but also use the digital camera as a microscope. For this purpose there is a special microscope mode, where the cam can even capture subjects that are only 1 cm away. It then adjusts its focus accordingly and focuses the image.

Conclusion
We feel that the quality of the photos is extremely high. You can create very detailed and razor-sharp images and video recordings, even from a greater distance.
Few illuminated objects or an environment that is a bit gloomy are also no problem for the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera.
Overall, the photo and video recordings were more than satisfactory. Many buyers are very enthusiastic about the pictures, but many are deterred by the high purchase price. In our opinion, especially the price difference between the model itself and the camera including housing is much too big. Although the housing is very valuable, the digital camera could be bundled with the housing for a slightly lower price.
Some buyers report fogging of the rear display glass from the inside. However, you can prevent this by keeping the camera inside the housing. If the temperature fluctuates very much, fogging can still occur in very cold waters, for example.
However, when we look at the massive advantages of the Olympus Tough TG-5 digital camera, the price you pay for the model itself is absolutely justified, and that’s why we have a very clear recommendation to buy it!
