The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera is a very high quality but nevertheless inexpensive bridge camera. Advantageous is its robust yet light and compact construction, its modern design and the extremely fast autofocus.

Compared to an SLR camera it has no mirror, which means you don’t have to clean it regularly, which makes the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera a little easier to maintain.

Although the power consumption is higher than that of an SLR cam, this model makes up for it with the DMC-FZ300EGK battery. You can also buy additional batteries and easily replace them should the camera battery run out.

This camera is not only because of its good price/performance ratio, but also because it has a dust and splash-proof housing, which allows the photographer to take good pictures even under very rough conditions.

Technical features

display

The manufacturer Panasonic is well known for putting bridge cameras on the market that produce very high-quality photo and video recordings. With the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera.

Far away objects are absolutely no problem for the high-quality bridge camera from Panasonic. Thanks to the 25-600 mm zoom, which offers a speed of F2.8 over the entire range with the Leica DC Vario ELMARIT lens, motifs of all kinds can be captured pin-sharp at great distances. This also applies in poor lighting conditions. As a result, this camera offers outstanding optical performance at a minimal price.

4K photos offer you the highest picture quality, video recordings can also be created in 4K resolution, i.e. 3840 x 2160 pixels.

Design and appearance

The design of the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera is somewhat reminiscent of an SLR camera. The bright LEICA lens has various roundings and protections to protect it from the penetration of moisture.

On the upper right side there are several controls like the shutter release to work with the camera. In addition, there is the video recording button, with which you can create photos at any moment during a video recording. With the program dial you can set the exposure time, aperture and a few other functions.

The viewfinder works digitally and displays the image in great detail.

In addition there is a 5-axis image stabilisation. The sensor detects 5 directions of movement and automatically calculates them in the image and compensates them in the horizontal, vertical and along the 3 rotation axes.

Unfortunately, the image stabilisation system does not work with 4K images, but with other resolution formats, which you can easily adjust in the menu.

Internally a stereo microphone is built in, which creates the sound tracks for video recordings. The recording quality is quite good, but you can also connect external sensors for sound recording which have a better recording performance.

Zooming in and out is quite quiet, but you will still be able to hear a slight noise. In our opinion, there are other camera models whose zoom function produces significantly more noise.

With the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera, the flash must be folded out manually. A lens shadow when using the flash function only occurs at the wide-angle in the close-up range and up to 10 centimetres. This is because the flash has been installed in such a way that the distance is ideal and the large lens does not get in the way during use.

Image sensor, resolution and memory

The videos in 4K resolution quality are recorded with 25 frames per second. If that’s not enough for you, you can easily switch to Full-HD, where the camera records at up to 50 fps. In addition, the menu offers you 720p and VGA resolution, which in principle saves some memory space, but you can clearly see the lower resolution values in the recording quality.

While you are recording video, you can zoom in or out with the camera. How far the zoom range goes depends on the resolution you have set. As already mentioned, the image stabilizer is only active in the lower formats and unfortunately not in 4K, which we think is a pity.

Videos are stored in either MP4 or AVCHD format. According to some shops, the camera requires an SD memory card with UHS Speed Class 3 to process video material.

How good is the image quality really?

The image quality is really damn good for this price, but those who want to benefit from an even better recording performance should get a larger photo sensor, for example the FZ1000.

But the disadvantage of larger sensors is that they usually have much larger dimensions and weight, which is of course a disadvantage.

What we like best is the large zoom range and the fact that you can record videos in 4K. The video quality is much better than some competing models. However, the picture quality is mediocre compared to other models, so if you want to focus on the best possible still image quality, you should look for a larger sensor, which is much more expensive and has the disadvantages already mentioned.

Ergonomics and quality of workmanship

Operation

Although the camera looks like a reflex camera, it is not. Its weight and dimensions are a little less than the usual DSLRs.

Thanks to the robustly built plastic housing and the many seals, the camera is perfectly protected against the penetration of splash water and dust particles.

Also the distinctive handle and the distinctive viewfinder make a good impression. In addition, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera sits very well in the hand.

Integrated WLAN function

The WLAN function is also really cool. With a suitable app for iOS and Android systems, you can transfer pictures to your end devices and control the camera from your smartphone or tablet.

The live image is transmitted almost without delay and you can adjust some functions of the camera via the terminal.

Since almost every smartphone also has GPS, you can also activate geotagging in the menu and use it sensibly. The synchronization is easy, fast and uncomplicated.

Conclusion

display

In our opinion, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera is clearly suitable for the classic amateur and hobby photographer.

Those who expect a significantly better photo performance at professional level should perhaps rather look at larger models such as the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000, Canon Powershot G3 X or Sony Cyber-shot RX10.

These have a larger photo sensor in 1-inch format and are also larger and heavier, but professionals are more likely to be delighted with the high recording quality than is the case with the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera.

However, the question of which model to buy is somewhat dependent on the price. Ultimately, you have to decide for yourself whether a rather expensive model makes sense for you or whether you’re satisfied with the FZ300. For the money you put here it will definitely deliver great pictures!

Here you can buy the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ300EGK premium bridge camera at a quite reasonable price!
