Super good for beginners, an integrated GPS positioning system, 1080P HD camera and also inexpensive. These main features, combined with a foldable design, make the SG900-S GPS quadrocopter special.
This makes the model very suitable for people who have little flying experience, and the price is really unbeatable!
The camera is not comparable with the photo sensors of expensive airplane models, but it delivers a pretty decent picture despite 1080P HD resolution. In this report we tell you what to expect and what you should pay attention to when flying this drone.
Technical details
The quadrocopter is controlled by a remote control, which has a cradle above it in which you can insert your smartphone.
Beginners will find it easy to get into drone flying with this model. For example, you can use the headless mode if you lose your bearings. The copter will fly exactly in the direction you move the joystick, regardless of the orientation of the drone head. Alternatively you can use the automatic return function.
Furthermore the SG900-S has 3 different speed levels, so you can slowly approach the new flight feeling and with increasing experience you can set a higher speed level.
The connection between remote control and drone is quite stable, thanks to the 2.4 Ghz technology with anti-interference. Security has been a major consideration in the production of this drone, which clearly speaks for this model. Besides GPS positioning and the automatic return function, there is also the low overcurrent protection, a 6-axis gyroscope and an intelligent tracking mode.
Design
This model is really not big at all and is also easy to fold. You can fold up both the propellers and the arms of this drone and store them in a space-saving way.
In terms of dimensions it is a little smaller than the DJI Mavic, but the design is very similar to this quadrocopter.
All in all, the appearance is very high quality and stable. The main color anthracite in combination with the surface structure makes a pretty modern impression. The electric motors, which are bevelled in the design, round off the quadrocopter and give it a unique look.
The small 1080P camera is installed in the front. Unfortunately, there is no multi-axis gimbal system which compensates for drone movements and provides a stable image. Slight wobbles in the video recordings are therefore completely normal.
The weight is about 200 g, so theoretically you don’t need a drone license plate in Germany.
The camera
In the shop you can choose if you want to have the drone delivered with the 720P or the 1080P camera. Both versions offer the possibility to transfer the image in real time to your smartphone.
The photo and video files are stored on a micro-SD card. Some buyers report that inserting the SD card is quite fiddly and you should be careful not to damage the plastic.
The photo resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels and the video resolution is approximately 1920 x 1080 pixels.
Of course, the recording quality is not comparable to that of higher priced models, but colour saturation and sharpness are completely acceptable for this price segment and round off the good price/performance ratio of the quadrocopter.
Range, battery and flight time
The flight battery is a 7.4 Volt strong 1100 mAh Lipo battery with which you can fly for about 10 minutes. The charging time is about 180 minutes. With additional batteries the flight time can be increased.
Thanks to the powerful remote control, the range is about 300 meters, but the WLAN signal for real-time image transmission is only 50 to 80 meters. As a rule, we recommend that you fly the drone model only within visual range, as this is a legal requirement in Germany.
Flight modes
If there is a significant drop in battery voltage, the drone returns fully automatically. It will also do this as soon as it receives a return command from you.
Another great feature that creates a cool perspective is the automatic point flight. Here you define a point and a radius around which the drone should circle.
Then there is the intelligent following. Here the drone fixes you or your mobile phone and follows you at every turn.
Beginners also benefit from modes such as Altitude Hold and Headless Mode, as well as One-Key Start and Automatic Landing.
Flight feeling
Very advantageous is the combination of the GPS positioning mode and the 6-axis gyroscope, which makes flying the quadrocopter much easier, because you don’t have to worry about balancing the model all the time.
In addition, you can operate the drone at the push of a button to perform a somersault or a roll in all 4 directions. Afterwards the model aircraft goes back into automatic hover flight.
The quadrocopter reacts quite fast, reliable and is super easy to fly. This is exactly why it is so well suited for beginners!
Advantages and disadvantages

- Very good price/performance ratio
- Extensive safety systems
- For newcomers this model is ideal
- Folding arms and propellers
- Cool design – similar to the DJI Mavic drone
- Many great flight functions like 3D stunts, one-key start and landing, headless and much more.
- 10 minutes flight time
- You can adjust the flight speed in 3 levels
- GPS and 6-axis gyroscope system for stable flight attitude
- Low weight
- A high-quality camera resolution for this price
Cons:
- No gimbal
Scope of delivery – What’s inside?
The scope of delivery included in the package is in itself very manageable. It contains everything you need to take off with the drone immediately.
Here is the delivery content:
- 1x SG900-S RC drone
- 1x 2.4 Ghz remote control
- 1x 7.4 V 1100 mAh Lipo battery
- 1x USB cable
- 4x propeller
- 1x screwdriver
- 1x instruction manual
Conclusion
Yes, the product is cheap and could look like a cheap copy of DJI-Mavic. But this drone is definitely not. The manufacturer will have followed the design of the Mavic, but that doesn’t mean that the SG900-S GPS quadrocopter is not high quality.
The price is really cheap, but the drone is very easy to control and has many automatic functions that simplify the control.
Before launching you should do a compass calibration to set up the drone properly. Note the two movements you have to make with the model to make the calibration successful.
In this price segment the SG900-S quadrocopter is really unbeatable. There is just no gimbal system but that is very rare for a model under 300 Euro. In the shop you pay for the drone with 1080P camera about 80€ and with 720P resolution about 70€.
