The Xiro Xplorer Mini Drone can be folded, has a selfie function, a follow me mode, many other great features and is available for a little under 200 €.
This seems to be a pretty attractive offer and so we took a closer look at the small quadrocopter.
Technical data and features
We have here a model which weighs about 430 g and has similar dimensions as the Parrot Bebop 2 when folded out.
The flight characteristics are quite different from this drone, but more on that later.
Built in is a 13 megapixel camera with which you can take great photos. The Selfie function is also helpful here. Videos can be recorded at a resolution of 1080 pixels and with 30 frames per second.
Similar to the Bebop drone from Parrot, this is a fisheye lens with electronic image stabilization.
What has bothered us a lot is the fact that the foldable quadrocopter does not have FPV glasses. Such a function would be recommendable with the features offered.
However, the FPV live image is transmitted in real time to the smartphone screen. For this you need a corresponding app, which you can quickly download and install in the store.
With a little practice it is also possible to create great shots without the FPV live image transmission, you just have to get a feeling for the right angle of the drone.
In the following we will quickly introduce you to the most important flight features the drone has to offer.
Follow Snap Function
In this mode you can mark an object or person using the app interface, then the quadrocopter will track it and create recordings in video format.
The Xiro Xplorer Mini Drone flies completely independently and the pilot does not have to intervene.
The Xplorer has some important technical features like the GPS system to keep the model on its own position when nobody is controlling the drone.
Assets and drawbacks
The positive and negative aspects of the camera are, of course, also a subjective matter of perception, but the price of the drone should always be taken into account. We have compiled the most important advantages and disadvantages in a small overview for you.
Advantages:
- Enormously powerful drone with a 13 MP camera and foldable design
- Can be connected to the smartphone and a corresponding app
- Intelligent & modern design for improved flight stability
- Extensive security features such as GPS for high-precision positioning
- Has numerous flight modes, including Follow Me Mode and the Home To
- Return mode
- Can be transported everywhere when folded
Cons:
- Does not have a gimbal system
- Not so well suited for professionals

Flight behaviour and stability
For the fact that you can buy this model so cheap, the flight attitude of the quadrocopter is quite stable. Therefore it is well suited for beginners who cannot or do not want to invest so much capital at the beginning.
The flight data and the design of a drone already show how well a model aircraft with 4-propeller drive can be flown.
The Xiro Xplorer weighs 430 g, which is a perfect weight for beginners, as the aircraft is neither too heavy nor too responsive to control commands at this mass.
The manufacturer has also provided for a long flight time, you can fly a full 15 minutes on one battery charge.
To ensure that the battery power can be used as efficiently as possible, the manufacturer aimed for the best possible aerodynamics of the flight system during development and installed efficient propellers with a large diameter.
In addition, high-performance lithium-polymer batteries were selected, which have a perfect ratio between weight and maximum charge quantity (Ah).
If the propellers of a model are particularly large, an engine will have to apply a lower speed to generate the same thrust as smaller rotors (diameter & aerodynamics of the rotors).
As a result, a larger and slower turning propeller is much more efficient and brings many advantages in terms of flight duration and attitude.
On the pictures you can clearly see that this is the case with the Xiro Xplorer.
As already mentioned the maximum range is about 100 meters. Usually the drone can be recognized quite well. The pattern of the cover or bodywork is striking, if you want a different colour, you can also remove and replace the cover.
Comparison of competitor models in the same price category
The Xiro Xplorer quadrocopter can best be compared to the Hubsan drone. This model also has several flight modes, including Altitude Mode, Headless Mode, Follow Me Mode and the Return To Home Mode.
The design of this model is also very elegant and promising. It weighs 410 gr and is therefore almost as heavy as the Xiro Xplorer.
Furthermore, the Hubsan H501S X4 Pro Drone has GPS and shines with a flight time of up to 20 minutes. The Hubsan drone is quite popular with beginners.
Conclusion
The Xplorer is available for a fraction of the price of other models in this size category.
It is often bought to get the first flight experiences, because its entry price is quite low and the model still has many features and advantages of an expensive drone.
Numerous functions improve flight quality and aerial photography. With this quadrocopter, the manufacturer wanted to bring a handy, compact, remote-controlled aircraft onto the market that is ideal for beginners and advanced pilots.
