The Ionlyou DW1 Mini Drone is already available for less than 20 Euro. A small toy for big and small. We have taken a closer look at the small quadrocopter and tested if it is suitable.
Technical data
In terms of dimensions, the drone is really tiny, it is 10 cm long and wide, and 2.5 cm high. Furthermore, it weighs only 31.8 g. The aircraft has a 4-axis radio technology which ensures that the quadrocopter is stable in the air. Therefore it is also ideally suited for beginners. The speed is divided into 2 levels. If you have little flying experience, we recommend you start with the first speed level and then slowly get used to the fast level on a large surface.
In small rooms, flying with the toy drone is no problem, because it has a collision protection, so-called rotor protection frames protect the rotors against collision with other objects. This protection is very unusual, it is arranged in a ring shape and is attached to the body of the flying object with struts leading inwards. Experience shows that small drones can withstand much more, so a crash is by no means a death sentence for small quadrocopters, which is why mini drones are ideal for drone novices.
The maximum flying time is about 8 minutes, but if you have a very fast flying style, it can be over after 5 or 6 minutes. The drone is charged via a power bank or a PC. An appropriate USB cable is included in the scope of delivery. It takes about 30 minutes until the flight battery is fully charged.
Remote control, operation and flight characteristics
For the experienced drone pilot the remote control might seem a bit small, but it is quite light and fits very well in the hand despite its small dimensions. The small quadrocopter can be moved spectacularly through the air quickly, even by beginners. In addition to the 2 different speed levels, various 3D stunts are pre-programmed.
Due to its small size and weight the small drone is very agile and agile. When starting you should take care not to push the control lever completely forward, otherwise the mini drone will slam you to the ceiling because it shoots up so fast.
If you push the left control lever slightly forward, she will lift off gently, if you move it to the left, she will turn around her own axis. The right joystick is used to move in the plane, i.e. forward, backward and sideways, right and left, according to the right lever position. The drone carries out the joystick movements immediately without much delay. To use the remote control, you need 2 x AAA batteries.
When flying the drone outdoors, you will notice that it is very susceptible to wind, so we recommend flying the drone indoors, otherwise the flying fun would be limited, as the mini drone will drift or crash at the slightest gust of wind. But indoors it is a lot of fun and you can extend your drone skills.
It can absorb shocks very well and withstands even a heavy fall because it is so light, small and well protected by the rotor protection. If you have sweaty hands, dry them first, otherwise the remote control could slip out of your hand.
Scope of delivery – What’s in it?
This is an RTF drone. What does that mean? Who is the Ionlyou DW1 Mini Drone suitable for?
Because of the dimensions and the look like a toy, you could think that the mini quadrocopter is also suitable for small children. This is not so! The small drone is only from 14 years and should be kept away from small children, because the rotors can damage small fingers.
From customer reviews and our own evaluation we can say that the Ionlyou DW1 Mini Drone is definitely not suitable for advanced pilots. Especially if you have already made experiences with bigger and higher quality quadrocopters, you will probably not have so much fun with the remote controlled aircraft.
However, beginners who have not yet acquired any great skills in the realm of drones will have plenty of fun and be able to expand their flying skills bit by bit without having to spend a particularly large budget.
Conclusion
We can recommend the Ionlyou DW1 Mini Drone to all those who have not yet gained experience flying a quadrocopter. However, since it does not have a camera, you will not be able to produce photos and videos.
So if you are interested in something bigger, we recommend the models from DJI, Hubsan and Parrot. The drones of these manufacturers have fully convinced in our tests and we would buy them again any time.
