There are two different versions of this drone on the market, one with a 2MP camera and the second version with a much better drone camera that can produce HD images.
We have tried the 2MP variant and in this drone test we will show you what the quadrocopter can really do in practice!
Look and design of the F181DH
As blue is my favourite colour, I was convinced by the colour right from the start 😀 The F181DH comes with propeller guards as standard, which make flying much easier, especially for beginners.
The remote control has a holder for the mobile phone, which can even hold a tablet. To fly the drone, an app must be downloaded. This app is free for Android and IOS and can be used without registration.
The battery has a size of 750 mAh and is fully charged after nearly 60 minutes. The accumulator is charged via USB cable at the power outlet, power bank or laptop.
This is a clear advantage over far more expensive models, such as the Mavic Air (here, the USB-C port can only be used to copy data and not to load it).
A cool addition to the drone set is the USB card reader.
An SD card, in this case 4GB, is also included in many other drone deliveries, but no USB card reader.
There is a German user manual that describes exactly how the drone works in detail.
Flight behaviour and functions
The quadrocopter can easily be brought into the air by using the start button on the remote control. The blue copter goes up into the air on its own to a height of one meter.
The Attitude Hold Mode allows the drone to hover at a constant height.
The drone is able to maintain its height well, but drifts off quickly at lower wind speeds.
One should be aware, however, that all drones in this price class show similar flight characteristics.
I would definitely rank the Potensic among the entry level drones. For this category the flight characteristics are definitely to be classified as very good.
Due to the control via 5.8G the live image transmission to the remote control up to a range of 30m and a height of 20m is no problem and works perfectly. But after that there are dropouts in the image transmission.
The stunts, i.e. the flipping of the drone, are a lot of fun and also work perfectly in practice.
The flight time of 7 minutes is absolutely ok for the entry. An additional battery is included in the scope of delivery, so that a total of almost a quarter of an hour can be flown in the air.
If we remove the flight protectors, the flight time will last even longer and can be increased to 8 to 8.5 minutes.
The first flight attempts should be started in any case outdoors in nature, because beginners have to get familiar with the controls first.
Although the drone stands like nailed to the ground, it sometimes tends to drift a little to the side without warning.
So if you fly indoor now, this can quickly lead to a crash.
In my view, a major plius point is the stability of the housing and the drone as a whole. In our flight test, the quadrocopter has also survived crashes from several meters height.
The drone has only a few scratches.
The flight behaviour can therefore be rated as good overall, although some practice is necessary at the beginning to feel 100% safe in handling the drone.
Photo and video quality
The photo quality is due to the low resolution of 2 megapixels correspondingly low.
Also the video recordings are not very special.
There is no gimbal to stabilize the filming and provide a stable, smooth image.
Here is a photo of us around the corner:
Conclusion about the Potensic drone
The drone is especially suitable for beginners who have no flight experience.
The quadrocopter survives even the hardest fall and makes the copter interesting for all pilots who have yet to learn to fly.
The scope of delivery is very generous and includes everything that is needed for the further flight experience.
The Potensic F181DH is currently available for sale at Amazon.
If you already have some experience in flying drones and want a better picture or flight characteristics, then you can take a look at the Hubsan drone.
If your budget is 350€ and 4k filming is required then the UPAir 4k might be the right choice for you.
If you are looking for a more comfortable flight, then DJI’s entry-level Spark drone is the one for you.
If you have any questions about the drone or other models, simply use the commentary function as always!
P.S.: Test video will follow as soon as I find time to cut it 🙂
