Overview and technical features
In terms of features it does not differ much from other ActionCams. It contains a microphone and a 1100mAh lipo battery. There is also a free app available for the camera in the store. We find the slow motion and timelapse function pretty cool.
The compartment for the battery on the underside can be opened easily, so you can easily change it at any time. Usually the charge is enough for many hours.
On the right side of the camera there is a button to switch the microphone on or off, as well as below another button to activate the WiFi. On the opposite side are the SD card slot, the HDMI and a micro-USB interface. You can use it to transfer the photo and video data to your PC or laptop and charge the battery.
Scope of delivery – What’s inside?
One point that we find important is that there are as many options for holding the cam as possible. The Denver 8060W is by no means economizing on this. A helmet, bicycle and suction cup mount is included in the scope of delivery. Furthermore, a water protection case is also included. In other words, everything you need for reliable outdoor use of the camera.
In addition, there is of course a quick guide, 2 adhesive pads, a frame for the camera like the GoPro 5, as well as the lithium-ion battery and the Denver 8060W camera itself included.
Quality & features of the Denver 8060W
The battery is already delivered fully charged. However, we recommend you to recharge it for a short time anyway, because it doesn’t last as long as some competing products do. If your WiFi is turned on, the battery will only last half an hour, but if it is turned off, you can film for almost an hour with the Denver 8060W. We recommend that you take 1 or 2 spare batteries with you for day trips.
For not even 80 € the picture quality is quite good. But if you’re looking for high quality shooting, we recommend the GoPro 5 action camera or GoPro Hero 6. Compared to other cameras, the Denver8060w has no problem capturing enough light from low light sources in a dark environment to capture objects well.
Unfortunately, the quality of the microphone is not comparable with more expensive ActionCams. With such a camera the main focus is usually not on the recording quality of the microphone, so we were not too critical here. However, background noise can be very annoying and voices are harder to recognize than with other cams.
At 1080p, the camera takes 60 frames per second, which it holds quite well. So the FPS doesn’t break down and so slow-motion shots can be produced reliably. An 8.0 MP CMOS is also used as a sensor here. The following values apply to video recordings:
– 4k – 3840×2160 pixel at 30 fps-
2,7k at 30 fps-
1080p – 1920×1080 pixel at 60 fps or 30 fps adjustable
These values apply to photo shoots:
– 16 MP – 4608×3456 JPG-
or 12 MP – 4000×3000 JPG
The shooting angle is 130 degrees, which is a normal angle. On the back of the camera there is also a 1.77″ (4.32 cm) LCD display on which you can watch your pictures again and follow the live image. The data is stored on an SD card. You can insert and use cards up to 32GB in the SD card slot. 16 GB corresponds to about 1.5 h recording time in 4K quality. If you record with a lower quality, the recording time will increase accordingly, but you should always take one or two spare batteries with you.
The camera is protected up to a depth of 30m in the waterproof protective housing. So you can also take it with you for swimming, snorkeling or diving. However, we have not yet been able to carry out an underwater test because I have not been diving again since my last holiday in Egypt.
App & different modes
You can easily pair the Denver 8060w with your smartphone. For this
you need a corresponding app. When downloading the application from Denver, make sure you install the right app and not the one for another device, as there are several.
If the app is installed on your smartphone, you can control the camera from your smartphone in the menu navigation. However, this option is not always practical, as the WiFi connection requires a lot of battery capacity.
You can also use the camera to record in slow motion, so you don’t have to edit the raw material on your PC to create slow motion or fast motion. These functions complete the product a little bit. You can create very individual and varied video recordings.
Advantages and disadvantages of the ActionCarm
To be able to make a clear purchase decision, both sides of the coin should be looked at. The Denver8060w camera also has its disadvantages. But let’s first look at the advantages:
– Very cheap, for this price you get here a good action camera-
Good recording quality in the dark-
Waterproof up to 30m (in the housing
)- Great modes (slow motion & fast motion)-
The manual is very extensive-
Many accessories
Unfortunately there are also some disadvantages:
– The connection between the smartphone and the camera may be interrupted-
The battery only lasts about 30 minutes with WiFi-
The micro quality is not so good
Conclusion about the Denver 8060W
The rather inexpensive action camera is ideal for getting started. However, we think that it is not sufficient for especially professional shots, as the quality of the microphone cannot compete with other ActionCams. A camera from the leading manufacturer GoPro could be an alternative here. Denver Electronics has a lot of experience with the development of various electronic devices, but GoPro has specialized in ActionCams.
For not even 80 € you can get a lot of accessories here. So far everything you need for the unlimited use of the action camera. For a bike tour, for diving, swimming, as a DashCam in a car or motorbike it is very suitable. But if you want to have high quality sound and/or video for your activities, another action camera is more suitable.
